    The Fibre operator maintenance team will be working on the CT1 - JB1 - NLD 2/3/4 (N1 path) services this weekend, testing links to improve this part of the network.

    Impact Description

    No impact is expected on client services, as traffic will fail over to the redundant paths.

    Good Evening,

    Please kindly note the latest update on the outage:

    The provider has advised that the fibre cable has been damaged beneath the tarred road, and the area is currently inaccessible for repairs. Live power cables are sparking and flaming continuously, creating a significant safety hazard. A contractor is required on-site to assist with drilling, with arrangements targeted for tomorrow morning.

    We will share further updates as more information is received.

    Latest Update: The provider's maintenance team has confirmed a cable break at the intersection of West Rd and Alsatian Rd. The break is located within the manhole where the cable has been severed.

    -- 16:18 -- The provider’s maintenance team has been dispatched to investigate the fault with an estimated time of arrival of 50 minutes to site, Further updates and estimated time of arrival will be shared as they become available.
    -- 17:59 -- The provider has completed testing on both fibre routes and identified a disconnection at 2.6096 km. They are now locating the fault, Further updates to follow once available.

    We're experiencing high latency to some destinations in Asia and Australia.

    This issue has been escalated to the cable provider for further investigation.

    Current Observations:

    Johannesburg to Asia: Latency has increased to 176ms (normal baseline: ~116ms)

    Cape Town to Asia: Latency has risen to 264ms (normal baseline: ~135ms)

    Good day

    National Long Distance connectivity between Cape Town and Durban has been restored. The issue was caused by a routing issue on the layer provider's network, specifically in East London. The issue was resolved by the providers engineers.

    NLD latency to and from the Cape Town datacentre is back to normal. All repairs have been completed by the respective service providers.

    Break point 1. Located between Knysna and Leeubos. Repairs completed at 01:30

    Break Point 2. Located between Darling and Malmesbury. Repairs completed at 01:50

    Break Point 3. Located between Three Sisters and Beaufort West. Repairs completed at 05:00

Packet loss on international Long Distance

    Good evening,

    One of our paths between Cape Town and London went down between 18:20 and 18:45. Traffic failed over to the redundant path. Clients may have experienced increased latency and packet loss to international destinations during that time.

    This issue is now resolved, and we are awaiting the RFO from the provider.

    This incident has been resolved on 24.09.2025 at 20:50:00.

    After a detailed investigation, we identified congestion on our NLD route between Rondebosch and Port Elizabeth, which impacted upstream traffic in the CPT Core at Teraco Rondebosch. The matter was escalated to the Layer1 Core Engineering team to assist with a solution. To mitigate the impact, traffic was rerouted away from the congested upstream link, and we are now observing latency within the threshold again.

    We continue to monitor the link closely, but expect all services to remain stable going forward.

    Please see below the incident details of the increased latency to Asia and Australia experienced on the 18th of September 2025 between 6pm and 8pm.

    Outage Start Date / Time: 16:04 GMT on Sep 18
    Outage Resolve Date / Time: 19:53 GMT on Sep 18
    Reason of Outage: There was a transmission problem between Singapore and Johannesburg segment causing traffic to re-route via alternative path resulting in higher latency. 
    Resolution: Normal latency resumed after transmission problem is restored.
