Please kindly note the latest update on the ongoing outage:

• A network outage has been identified affecting services delivered via the fibre infrastructure. The issue has been escalated and formally logged with our fibre service provider's maintenance team for investigation and resolution.

• 04:16 – The maintenance team is arranging the necessary repair work and confirming when technicians will be onsite. Once the ETA for the repair team has been confirmed, we’ll share another update right away.

• 04:53 – The current ETA for the fibre service provider’s maintenance team to be onsite is 07:00 AM.

• 08:00 – The team has investigated and identified the fault approximately 100 meters along Pretoria Road from Stanley Road. The following conditions were observed on site:

  • An open manhole with cable joints exposed outside.

  • A fibre cable that has been cut.

  • A 72-fibre micro red cable that has been pulled out of the Tenio joint, which appears to be missing or possibly stolen.

• 09:00 – The team is currently connecting the red fibre cable, while another team is checking the extra length of the second cable to ensure it can be properly connected.

The fault affecting the SAFE West submarine cable has been repaired and power has been restored. Data transmission is now stable, and latency has returned to normal levels. The network operations team will continue to monitor the system to ensure it remains stable.

Kindly note that the current issue is due to our provider relocating a FOC (Fiber Optic Cable) as a result of ground that is sinking. The cable is being moved to a new area to prevent further disruption. Traffic has been rerouted, resulting in higher latency during this period.

The estimated time of restoration (ETR) is:

This incident has been resolved on 24.09.2025 at 20:50:00.

After a detailed investigation, we identified congestion on our NLD route between Rondebosch and Port Elizabeth, which impacted upstream traffic in the CPT Core at Teraco Rondebosch. The matter was escalated to the Layer1 Core Engineering team to assist with a solution. To mitigate the impact, traffic was rerouted away from the congested upstream link, and we are now observing latency within the threshold again.

We continue to monitor the link closely, but expect all services to remain stable going forward.

Please see below the incident details of the increased latency to Asia and Australia experienced on the 18th of September 2025 between 6pm and 8pm.

Outage Start Date / Time: 16:04 GMT on Sep 18
Outage Resolve Date / Time: 19:53 GMT on Sep 18
Reason of Outage: There was a transmission problem between Singapore and Johannesburg segment causing traffic to re-route via alternative path resulting in higher latency. 
Resolution: Normal latency resumed after transmission problem is restored.

Please kindly note that the Voip issue with our upstream provider, has been resolved. The root cause of the incident is still under investigation, and we are awaiting their official report.

We will share the details with customers on our notification page as soon as we receive the report.
